Oroville Boasts Worlds Largest Antique Tool Collection

ABC NEWS10/KXTV
May 2010

OROVILLE, CA - Bolt's Antique Tool Museum is recognized by the Smithsonian as the largest documented tool collection in the world. It is also the only museum of its kind in the world.

"I think the most fascinating thing," said Carl "Bud" Bolt, "is when you realize that if we took all the tools off the planet tonight and they're not going to make anyore, we'd revert back to the Dark Ages a lot sooner than anyone could possibly imagine."

Bolt spent a career in the tool business, working for Snap-On-Tools. He started collecting tools to bring along on visits to high school shop classes.

Now the museum has some 10,000 tools dating back to 1821 and going up to World War II.

Jonathan Mumm takes a look in this California Postcard Report.
